Earth Day
The fact that we have to legally designate a special day to remind us of the most important thing in our lives—the very reason for our continued existence—saddens me. But so be it. Holidays help to remind us about important things. Whether it’s saying thanks, telling people we love them, remembering past innovators and contributors or reminding us that a well-timed prank makes living a little more worthwhile.
I think of all the days, this day is the most important to me. Enough to break my normal silence on non-art topics. I hope anyone who reads this will take a moment to contribute in some way to the health of this place we call home. It’s such a sad time for our world and our ecosystem. But we have two choices: watch and wallow or go to bed knowing we at least tried.
This page offers some ways to take action: nrdc.org/action It doesn’t cost money or anything. Just a moment of your time to sign a petition or email your senator.
If that isn’t your cup of tea, do something else. Something that speaks to you. And go ahead and tell me about it. I’m curious. It’s easy to feel like you’re the only one who cares but I find that hard to believe. There must be people out there who get just as angry as me everytime you’re belittled or marginalized or dismissed as a hippie just because you suggest that it might not be so wise to shit where we eat.
Love,
Val
